More and more of our customers are looking for quicker alternatives to the conventional method of shipping large or heavy cargoes, with frequencies and transit times far better on containerships we have found ways of moving some of the most awkward pieces of kit on cellular vessels.
In December of 2007 we were contracted to move 2 very large incinerator chambers to Hong Kong, over and above the 76 & 58 tonne pieces there were a number of FCL containers, the terms on the letter of credit were strictly no part shipments allowed and no transhipment, we gladly accepted the challenge and effectively moved all the cargo on one cellular vessel from the UK direct into Hong Kong.
The heavy weight pieces gave us a particular challenge as the standard Port Cranes did not have sufficient lifting capacity, however with careful co-ordination and planning the units were brought alongside the vessel by floating crane and safely lifted into the hatch, this same operation was repeated in Hong Kong, with the assistance of our local office floating cranes were employed to discharge the cargo which was then safely landed to the waiting vehicles ready for final delivery to the consignee.
